The short answer
For a Fire TV Stick, Android TV or Google TV device, install Rhoe's TV app, approve the TV from your phone, and send your provider details across — no typing with the remote. For Samsung and LG TVs, plug in a Fire TV or Google TV device, since those TVs cannot install Android apps.
- The TV app is a separate ten-foot build, not the phone app stretched onto a TV.
- On a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube, install it free from the Amazon Appstore.
- On Android TV and Google TV it is not in Google Play yet, so you install it by sideloading. Email rhoe.app@gmail.com for the current TV build.
- It handles Xtream Codes, M3U playlists with XMLTV, Stalker portals and direct streams.
Which TVs and boxes work
| Device | Rhoe TV app | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube | Yes | Fire OS 7 or later (Android 9 based). Fire TV devices on Amazon's newer Vega OS do not run Android apps. |
| Android TV and Google TV | Yes | Android TV 9 or later: Google TV Streamer, Chromecast with Google TV, NVIDIA Shield, and Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips Android TVs. |
| Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) | No | These TVs cannot install Android apps. Add a Fire TV or Google TV device to an HDMI port. |
| Apple TV | Not yet | There is no tvOS build today. |
| MAG and other set-top boxes | No | These run their own firmware; use their built-in portal player. |
Requirements for every build are on the download page.
How to install Rhoe on a Fire TV Stick
Rhoe is in the Amazon Appstore, so there is nothing to sideload on a Fire TV.
- Search for Rhoe. On the Fire TV home screen, open Find → Search and type “Rhoe”.
- Select Rhoe – IPTV & M3U Player and choose Get or Download. It is free.
- Open Rhoe from your apps row.
You can also open the Rhoe listing on Amazon on a phone or computer, signed in to the same Amazon account as the Fire TV, and send it to your device from there.
How to install Rhoe on Android TV and Google TV
- On Google TV, enable developer mode: Settings → System → About, then select Android TV OS build seven times. Most other Android TVs skip this step.
- Allow unknown sources for the app that will install Rhoe — a file manager or Downloader — under Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources.
- Get the file onto the TV with that app, a USB stick, or
adb installfrom a computer on the same network. - Install and open Rhoe. It appears in your apps row like any other app.
Connect your provider without typing on the TV
Typing a long server URL and password with a remote is the worst part of IPTV on a TV. Rhoe avoids it:
- The TV shows a QR code and an eight-character code. Scan it with your phone, or open rhoe.app/activate and type the code.
- Approve the TV in the Rhoe phone app or on the website, after checking the code matches the one on screen.
- Send your provider from your phone. In the phone app, Account → Connect TV sends an Xtream login, Stalker portal, M3U link with XMLTV, or direct stream to the TV. Both screens show a six-digit code; send only if they match.
The provider details are encrypted on your phone for that one TV, so Rhoe's servers only relay ciphertext they cannot read. You can still type the details on the TV if you prefer.
Using Rhoe with the remote
- D-pad moves between channels, the guide and player controls. Focus is always visible from across the room.
- OK plays a channel or opens a film or episode.
- Back closes the channel drawer or returns to the previous screen.
- Channel up and down surf through the list without leaving the player.
Smoother IPTV playback on a TV
- Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. TV sticks behind the television often get a weak 2.4 GHz signal. A USB Ethernet adapter fixes most buffering on a Fire TV Stick.
- Pick the HD version of a channel if a 4K one buffers; 4K needs roughly 20–25 Mbps sustained.
- Close other streams. Your subscription's connection limit counts every device playing at the same time.
- Restart the stick occasionally. Low-memory devices recover a lot of speed after a reboot.
Questions
Can I watch IPTV on a Samsung or LG smart TV?
Not with an Android app, because Samsung's Tizen and LG's webOS cannot install them. The simplest route is a Fire TV Stick or Google TV device in a spare HDMI port, which then runs Rhoe's TV app.
Do I need to sideload Rhoe on a Fire TV Stick?
On Fire TV you no longer need to: Rhoe is in the Amazon Appstore. On Android TV and Google TV, sideloading is a standard feature. Only install files from a source you trust — for Rhoe, the build we send you from rhoe.app@gmail.com — and you can turn unknown sources back off afterwards.
Is Rhoe in the Amazon Appstore and Google Play?
Rhoe for Fire TV is in the Amazon Appstore, and the phone app is in Google Play and the App Store. The TV app is not in Google Play yet, so Android TV and Google TV users sideload it for now.
Do I need a Rhoe account on the TV?
No, you can type your provider details on the TV. Signing in is what lets you approve the TV and send your provider from your phone, and it syncs your favourites and progress between devices.
Does the TV app play 4K?
Yes, on hardware that decodes it. The TV app uses ExoPlayer with a libVLC fallback and plays HEVC and 4K channels when your device and connection can handle them.
