IPTV setup,
made simple.

Setup, the four connection types, and the handful of errors that account for most of what goes wrong.

  • Something broken?

Tell us the device, the connection type and the exact wording on screen. That is usually enough to answer in one reply.

Connecting your provider

Rhoe asks for a connection the first time it opens. Pick the type that matches what your provider actually gave you — the wrong type with the right details is the most common reason setup fails.

Xtream Codes

You were given a server URL, a username and a password, or one long link containing all three. Enter the server with its port and nothing after it — no /c/, no player_api.php. This is the only type that gives you live TV, guide and a film library together.

M3U playlist

You were given a link ending in .m3u or .m3u8, or a file. Paste the link or open the file. For a programme guide, add your provider's XMLTV URL as well — a bare playlist carries no guide data.

Stalker portal

You were given a portal URL and told to register a MAC address. Enter both. The MAC has to be the one your provider whitelisted, or the portal will refuse to hand out a token.

Direct stream

One address for one stream — https, rtsp, rtmp or udp. Useful for a camera, a local encoder or a single test channel. There is no catalogue and no guide, because there is nothing to list.

Whatever you enter is stored in your device's keychain, not on our servers. Details are in the privacy policy.

Android TV and Fire TV

The television build is a separate app with a ten-foot layout, not the phone app stretched out. Until it is listed on the store, install it by sideloading.

  • Allow installs from unknown sources for whichever file manager or sideloading app you use, in the TV's security settings.
  • Get the file onto the box — a USB stick, a downloader app, or adb install from a computer on the same network.
  • Install and open it. Everything after that is driven with the remote: the D-pad moves focus, OK selects, Back closes.
  • Add your provider connection on the TV. Sign in to Rhoe optionally to sync your preferences; provider credentials stay on each device.

Ask us at support@rhoe.app for the current television build and we will send you the file and the steps for your specific box.

The web player

A browser is the fastest way to test a connection, and the only way to watch on a smart TV that runs neither Android nor Fire OS. Open it, then install it from the browser's address bar so it launches like an app.

  • Works in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, on desktops and on smart TV browsers.
  • Installable. Add it to your home screen or desktop and it opens without browser chrome.
  • One limit worth knowing. Desktop browsers cannot decode HEVC, so 4K channels play as audio only. HD channels are unaffected.

Write to support@rhoe.app for the current web player address while it is in testing.

A LITTLE ROOM IN YOUR BROWSER

Open. Connect. Watch.

Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Connect your provider, then add the player to your home screen if your browser supports installation.

Watching a 4K stream?

HEVC support depends on your browser and device. If you hear sound without a picture, try an HD channel or a native app.

Request the web player address

When something goes wrong

Rhoe reports failures in orange with a word, never with colour alone — "Expired", "Couldn't connect", "Stream failed". Here is what each one usually means.

Rhoe says it couldn't connect when I add my provider

Almost always the server address. Enter it exactly as your provider wrote it, including the port, with no /c/ or player_api.php path on the end.

Release builds require https for the control endpoint, because that request carries your password — an http-only panel will be refused by design. And check the subscription has not simply expired by signing in to your provider's own panel.

Channels appear but nothing plays

The catalogue loaded, so your credentials are fine — the stream itself is being refused. Usually one of three things: your subscription's simultaneous-connection limit is already used up on another device, the provider IP-locks streams and your address changed, or that one channel is off air. Try a second channel first to tell them apart.

Playback keeps buffering

Buffering is bandwidth or the provider's server, not the player. Test the same channel on another network, switch from a 4K to an HD version of the channel if your provider offers both, and prefer wired or 5 GHz on a television.

If one group of channels buffers and everything else is fine, that group sits on a struggling server and only your provider can move it.

The guide is empty

Xtream and Stalker portals publish their own guide, so an empty guide there means the provider is not serving one. A plain M3U playlist carries no guide at all — add your provider's XMLTV URL in the connection settings to fill it in.

My sign-in code never arrived

Check the spam folder, then request a new one. Codes expire after a few minutes and only the newest is valid. Sign-in requests are rate limited, so if you asked several times in a row, wait a minute before trying again.

My settings are not syncing between devices

Both devices need to be signed in to the same Rhoe account and connected to the same provider address — settings are stored per service, so two different servers keep two separate sets. Sync runs when the app opens and after each change; pull to refresh on whichever device is behind.

A 4K channel plays sound but no picture in my browser

Desktop browsers generally cannot decode the HEVC video that 4K channels use. Watch that channel in the iPhone, Android or Android TV app, which decode it natively. Nothing is wrong with your connection.

Can I record or download for offline viewing?

No. Offline downloads exist in the codebase but are switched off in every public build, pending distribution rights and a store-policy review. There is no recording feature.

Can I use Rhoe without an internet connection?

No. Every stream comes from your provider over the internet, so a connection is always required. Rhoe caches artwork and guide data to open faster, not to play offline.

Still stuck?

Send the device, the connection type and the exact wording on screen. One reply is usually enough.
